Algebra oi! You rock my socks
Feet will tremble, brain gets blocked
I thought math was about 1, 2, 3
& now I have these x, y, z's
1 + 2 = 3
but x + y not equal z
1 + ½ = 1 ½
but a + a/2 not equal a a/2;
Woe is me! i cringe and fear
Can someone help me out right here ?

Q1. If 1 + 2 = 3, does 1² + 2² = 3² ? Explain.
Q2. Does 1x + 2x = 3x ? Then does x¹ + x² = x³ ? Explain.
Q3. "but x + y not equal z ". What do you think ?

first, 1+2 is equal to three but 1² + 2² is not equal to 3² because 1² + 2² = 1 + 4
=5
second, 1x + 2x = 3x is correct but x¹ + x² is not equal to x³.
x¹ + x² = x + x(x)but x³= x(x)(x).
UH wait my ans is different from emily&jingwen! D:
anyway,"x + y not equal z"...it depends on what x,y,z are right?so, no idea(:

2² = 4
3² = 9
and 1 and 4 do not add up to 9
q2)(i)yes,because
if x = 2,
then 1x + 2x = (1x2) + (2x2) = 6
and 6 is (3x2)
(x is a common factor:D)
(ii)x¹ + x² = x³
false, because x¹ + x² = x + x(x)
while x³ = x(x)(x) so they are not equal manxz.
if x is 2,
it would be (2) + (2x2) = 6
but x³ = 2x2x2 = 8
so it is false that x¹ + x² = x³.
q3)huh? wat is the value of axe, whye and zec? lalalala. ppl, lets not mugg for geog! lets not be muggers!!!

EM: different wad. ur ans for part two of second question is yes but my ans is no,x¹ + x² is not equal to x³ but urs is yes. >.<

i like your algebra song a lot. to the 3 questions, the first two q's are very similar just that 1,2,3 is replaced by x. since 1+2=3, so 1x+2x=3x AND since 1 square + 2 square don't = 3 square, the ans will also be the same for q2. for q3 the value of x,y,z is unknown so it may be eg. 3+5=4 which is WRONG!

I was just wondering if you could post problems that can have many solutions/answers to it because the algebra questions you have posted have like only one explaination to it and everybody is repeating the same old explaination over and over again. Atleast if the problems have more solutions/explainations, everybody will not need to repeat the same old stuff again. :) Have a nice day! :)

q2) uh...yes....n no. if x=1 or 0, then yes. but in most cases, no, becus...u said so too. x^2+x^1 is juz x^2+x^1, but x^2*x^1 is x^3
q3) eh...qn unclear?? depends. :)
